Data Collection

The Healthy Neighborhoods Project is gathering information from over 400 New Orleans residents through surveys, focus groups, and key informant interviews. Participants will answer questions about their experiences living in their neighborhood. Participants will be asked their opinions on how their neighborhood’s conditions impact their health and well-being and asked to share their feelings about changes seen in their neighborhood.

Survey Interviews

Individuals from specific neighborhoods will be asked to participate in interviews over the course of the study. People are eligible to participate if they are 18 years or older and live within targeted areas of the city. Recruitment takes place through mail and door-to-door sampling. There will be four interviews total, one interview every 6 months. Each interview will last approximately 30 minutes. Participants will receive up to $120 or $150, with a $25 gift card per interview in appreciation of their participation plus up to $20-$50 for responses to text questions.

Focus Groups

Neighborhood-specific focus groups consisted of 6-8 individuals. The Project Coordinator recruited participants through flyers or community events. People were eligible to participate if they are 18 years or older. Focus groups were moderated by research staff in a community space and lasted approximately 1 hour. Participants received a $25 gift card in appreciation for their participation.

Key Informant Interviews

Interviews with community leaders and residents identified as key informants will be conducted through the project period.  Respondents age 18 years or older are identified by the research team as well as through community recruitment. Interviews last approximately 1 hour and may be conducted over the phone or in person. Participants receive a $25 gift card in appreciation for their participation.
